Paul Thomas Anderson Movies

One of the best directors alive. Tarantino is always talks about how they are competitive colleagues… what a joke. Here are my favorites in order.

There Will Be Blood

The second time I watched this, when I could begin to process it even a little, it went from one of my least favorite to my favorite PTA movie. It follows an extremely unlikable oil prospector and his son as they go from rags to riches during the westward expansion. I would start here if your not familiar with PTA, watch his other films all of which are amazing, and then come back to this again. Paul Dano, also in Little Miss Sunshine, is unbelievable juxtaposed to Daniel D-L’s transparent and relentless ambition.

The Master

Haven’t met a lot of people who have seen this but its incredible. A scientology/hypnotic cult led by an often wasted Philip Seymour Hofmann takes in a disheveled ex-army Joaquin Pheonix and the manipulation begins. Be on the lookout for clues that Amy Adams is the one really pulling the strings. Cinematography is top knotch.

Punch-Drunk Love

My favorite Adam Sandler movie by a long shot and a good date movie for the risk takers out there. Lookout for the amazing Philip Seymour Hoffman phone call scene. There are some outtakes on youtube where he falls off of a bus.
